Skype sessions
Today we had our first Skype session with the pupils in Italy. We spoke about our names and some of our favourite things. We really enjoyed speaking to the children and learning a little bit about them.

You can see pictures from our other Skype sessions using the links below.

Class 6H

March 2014: 6H have been finding mean, median and mode in the garden. We measured trees.

April 2014. 6H have been calculating the area, perimeter and volume of the planters so that they can calculate how many seeds to plant.

May 2014. 6H have been planting their seeds in the planters within the garden.

June and July 2014. 6H have ensured that the plants have been watered regularly.

Class 6T

March 2014: 6T have been finding mean, median and mode in the garden. We measured trees to calculate the averages.

April 2014. 6T have been calculating the area, perimeter and volume of the planters so that they can calculate how many seeds to plant using multiples.

May 2014. 6T have been planting their seeds in the planters within the garden using multiples to grow their fruit and vegetables in lines equal distance apart.

June and July 2014. 6T have ensured that the plants have been watered regularly.

Class 5C

September 2013
We spent the whole day researching our partner countries, we explored the different foods and made Italian sandwiches. We learnt some French greetings and listened to French music. After that, we used art straws to design and construct the Eiffel Tower as well as researching each countries football leagues.

November 2013
we went outside to observe the Comenius space and discuss ideas for our designs. Then, we estimated and measured the Year 5 planters so that we could convert between units of measure.

January 2014
We went outside and used the S.E.E.D area to create a poem.

February 2014
We performed our poems.

March 2014
Our class designed and made tripods to support our plants that we had grown.
June'14 049.JPG
May 2014
We researched the correlation between plant growth and time of year.

June 2014
We compared Time zones of our partner countries.
On our art day, we decorated frames using recycled materials, so that they can be displayed in the Comenius space.

Class 5S
21/11/13 We researched the plants and vegetables that would grow in the U.K.

3/12/13 We sketched the plants and vegetables that we might want to grow.

22/1/14 We measured the seed spaces and calculated the area and perimeter of the planters.

23/1/14 We calculated the space needed for certain plants and sketched diagrams of the planters showing how many plants would fit.

5/2/14 We spent a few days researching the different countries associated with the Comenius project.

22/3/14 We created poems inspired by the Comenius garden.

4/6/14 We created bar charts for populations of the Comenius countries.

18/6/14 We created symmetrical patterns using flags from the Comenius.

Class 4S

Spring Term: 4S enjoyed counting the recycled materials collected by school in preparation for the Art Days. We created frequency tables and produced fantastic bar charts to show the information.

June 2014: During the Art Days, the children produced flags of each Comenius country using recycled materials. We produced our flags using collage and this resulted in some amazing work. The flags are to be put on display in the Community Garden Comenius space.

Class 4A

16th September 2013, we spent the whole day researching our partner countries.

We explored the different foods and made our own pizzas.

We had an Italian session with our language teacher.

We devised a menu for our pretend cafe.

We made our own football cards.
3rd February 2014, we went outside to discuss our ideas for the Comenius space in the garden.
4th April 2014, after growing the flowers from seeds in indoor pots, we planted them in the garden.
We tried to grow our flowers so that they looked like a Catalan flag.
10th June 2014, The flowers grew quite well, but some of the yellows turned pink.
17th June 2014, on our art day, we made flags in collages of recycled materials so that they can be displayed in the Comenius space.

Class 3B

Class 3H
Today we went outside to look at the planter for class 3H. We used mathematics skills of multiplication to decide how seeds and bulbs could be planted in an array. We had to decide on a multiplication sentence for each of our arrays.

Today, we have been outside to look at the S.E.E.D. space for our school competition. We have to design an area that our children can visit and include as many multi-sensory aspects as possible. Here you can see us looking at the space.

After the Easter break, we went outside to see the class planter. The daffodils and bluebells have started to flower nicely.

Class 2BH and Class 2T
Today, we have been outside to see our planter for the first time. We used the rulers and metre sticks to measure the length and the width of the planter.

In Literacy we have used our skills to write a recount of our visit to the planter.

We used the internet to research vegetables that we could plant in our class planter. We have decided to grow raddish, carrots and broad beans.

We have used the information we have found to compile a class non fiction book, including, glossaries, indexes and captions.

Today we went outside to the planter. We wanted to find out different ways to arrange our seeds. We used counters and recorded our arrays and multiplication calculations to match.

Here are a few of our designs for the Comnenius space in our garden. We would like to see toadstool seating, bird houses and water features in the area.

Today we went into our Comenius garden. We have been learning about length and how to measure in class. We were given metre sticks and rulers. Some of us had to measure all the sides of our class planter, when we had done this we had the challenge of adding the length of each of the sides to find the perimeter. Some of us found things shorter and taller than 1 metre.

Today we were very excited to go outside and plant carrot seeds and broad bean seeds into our planter. We had to use rulers to measure the distance beween the seeds and how far deep into the soil the seed needed to go. We talked about what seeds need to be able to grow and after planting we watered the seeds.

After our easter break we were very excited to go outside to see if our seeds had begun to grow. We were really pleased with the results. We are going to keep a record of observations as we go out each week to look at the changes in the planter and measure the growth of the plants.

Today we went out to the planter to add beetroot and carrot plants. We look forward to watching the progress of these plants in the coming weeks.
SDC13897.JPG SDC13892.JPG

We are enjoying keeping track of the progress our broad beans are making. Each week we go outside and we have a look at our plants, we measure the growth so that we can record it in our table. We then make notes to describe what we have seen. It has been good to see all the changes each week.

June 2014
We have been into the Comenius garden to search for living things in their habitats. We were amazed at how many different creatures we found.

June 2014
We went into the Comenius garden to look for inspiration to help us to write poems that included interesting adjectives, verbs and adverbs. We made notes in the garden and then generated lots of vocabulary to use in our poems.

Today we went to measure our broad beans and to look at the other vegetables in our garden, we could see lots of broad beans that have grown and they will soon be ready to pick. The tallest plant in our planter was 90 cm long.

Class 1M and 1W

Year One have been measuring using non-standard and standard units of measure in the Comenius garden. The children have estimated the length of the garden, the size of the flower beds and have measured using centimetres, metres, hand spans and foot spans.

Year One have been planting strawberry plants in the Comenius garden. We followed a set of instructions to ensure our plants have a good chance of survival.
