UK-Union-Flag.pngCorinthian Primary School

Corinthian Community Primary School is a successful medium sized school based in Stoneycroft, Liverpool. We cater for children from nursery up to year 6. We are a two form entry school with two classes of around 30 children in each class. Each year group has an additional Learning Support Mentor attached to it who assist children in lessons and in working with small group sessions in the afternoons. We teach a broad and balanced curriculum, involving children in issues both locally and globally, increasing their awareness of their place in school, the community and the wider world. We are an aspirational school, encouraging our children to reach their potential in every way that they can, be that academically, musically or in sports.

In addition to the main school, Corinthian CP School manages an attached Children's Centre and as such, serves families within Old Swan and Stoneycroft areas of Liverpool. Although we serve a mainly white British community (92.5%), we are increasingly aware of the challenges faced by working with this profile of community. As a school, we are intent on ensuring that children gain a good insight into the multicultural aspect of their city; to ensure that they have broad and balanced views and are open to a wide range of cultures.

The number of children entitled to free school meals in our area has steadily risen over recent years, with 30% of families being entitled to financial support in the past 6 years. There are several challenges facing the community, including deprivation, ill health and social housing issues. We are prioritising initiatives that engage our children and the wider community within sports, environmental awareness and investigative learning.

italia.pngIstituto Comprensivo "Roncalli"

Istituto Comprensivo “Roncalli" includes a kindergarten, two primary schools and a midlle school. It hosts at about 850 pupils, distributed at the different school grades (pupils from 3 to 13/14) . The experience of working together with different school levels is quite a new one for Italian schools (10 years), and not always an easy one, teachers of different levels had to learn to get used to it, yet our 'Istituto' succeeded in carrying out a number of 'vertical' projects, involving all the "Istituto" pupils - and this increased our Identity as Istituto Comprensivo and the value and strength of our educational action.
The school is located in Quarto d'Altino, a village (about 8000 inhabitants), not far from Venice (20 km, both by car and train), Treviso (same distance), Padua (40 km). Quarto d'Altino has an important archeological area, and a quite famous museum (in Altino, which was an ancient Roman city, whose inhabitants founded Torcello and then contributed to enlarge the original nucleus of Venice, Rialto); Quarto d'Altino is situated along the banks of the river Sile, which is a recognized National Park, because of its peculiar natural features. A specific thread among our vertical (inclusive of all school levels) educational proposals is devoted to help our pupils learn about the 'treasures' of the territory they live in, and be aware of the necessity to take care and protect them. An increasing number of our students has lately started coming from neighbour areas (Mestre and surrounding villages) and the number of migrants from other European countries ( Moldavia, Albania, Ucraina) and non-European countries (Morocco, Tunisia, South America, Iran, China ) has gradually increased in the latest years; we think Europen projects, especially if they involve practical, real experiences such as SEEDS can help to promote knowledge, respect and acceptance of differences, and positive attitudes towards inclusion and towards different language, culture, social habits. Our 'Istituto' also hosts 23 Special Skills students, distributed in the different school levels; these students are have no 'special' classes, and live their school experience with their age peers, supported by the aid of specific teachers.

fr.pngCollege Emile Zola's overview.

Set in the industrial basin of Mulhouse, in the south of Alsace, Emile Zola Secondary School welcomes 440 pupils (from surrounding Primary schools) aged 11 to 15 years old. This local establishment depends on the French National Education, and employs 70 people. Kingersheim, which houses the school, is located in the suburban area of Mulhouse. This area has a high rate of immigrants. Its population is rather poor, and poverty is yet expanding; indeed, in 2011, 46% of the families whose children attended E.ZOLA School were considered as poor, while in 2006, they represented 37% of the families.
Even though the majority of our students are attending a normal national curriculum, our school is composed of several specific sections, such as: two sport sections (one for handball, the other for volley ball, which one regularly performs in national championships), and a special unit for children with mental retardation.
As a conclusion, Emile Zola Secondary School is part of a wider community. Parents and local associations are involved in the life of the school, and the school tries to face the challenges entailed by a constantly evolving society: issues raised by immigration and the assimilation of immigrant populations; issues raised by an increasing population, the challenges of urbanization, the management of the environment in a region where industrial and agricultural activities are still the leading domains of the economy.

Our school is located in a suburban area. The economy of the inhabitants of the village depends on farming. Some students' families face problems with unemployment and/ or little income which affects their daily life including eating properly, having lack of activities needed for the development of social and personal competences or having school needed materials.

Because all children have the right to an education, our school tries to manage and implement different school syllabus, extracurricular activities to provide them with different opportunities to develop their abilities at different levels. We believe that our school needs more pleasurable approaches to teaching, especially in regard to teaching maths and scientific subjects, mostly to young learners. We think that this clear and precise project will help students and teachers Europewide to gain new approaches, more motivations both in studying and in working, better communicational skills and the chance to reach new goals: innovation, creativity and happiness.

Sharing ideas and experience increase the children's knowledge in order to develop an understanding of the world. Our school would hope that participating in this partnership will broaden our pupils educational experience and encourage them to interact with their peers across Europe more confidently. With the expanding use of ICT in our schools it is also hoped that our pupils will get the opportunity (by participating in the partnership) to enhance their language skills and acquire a vast knowledge of the different cultures spread out across Europe today. Furthermore, we aim to develop links with other schools in Europe, which may lead to an exchange of (teaching) materials and ideas. The teachers will have the chance to discover new methods and technics of teaching which will result in the improvement of their pedagogical abilities.
